Memorial Honors 9/11 Fallen at Romare Bearden Park in Uptown Charlotte

Today, Romare Bearden Park hosts a memorial honoring the 2,977 lives lost on September 11, 2001.

The 9/11 memorial includes 2,977 American flags and pays tribute to Firefighter Steven Coakley, one of the 343 firefighters who perished in service that day.

The event, “Flags of Remembrance,” began at 8:30 a.m., with bell tolls marking the key moments of the attacks. A steel beam from the World Trade Center is on display.

The memorial will remain open to the public through Tuesday, Sept. 12, for reflection and tribute.
