An 8-year-old girl was injured in an accidental shooting in southwest Charlotte on Thursday, according to police. The incident occurred around 2 p.m. along West Arrowood Road, near Interstate 77.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police and Medic responded to the scene, where officers determined that the shooting was accidental. Investigators reported that a gun discharged in one room, with the bullet passing through a wall and striking the child in the stomach.
The victim was transported to Atrium Health’s Carolinas Medical Center and is expected to make a full recovery, according to CMPD.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the incident, working to identify who fired the shot. It remains unclear if anyone has been taken into custody or what exactly led to the shooting.
