Four officers tragically lost their lives in a shooting incident during a warrant service at a residence in North East Charlotte on Monday afternoon. Among the fallen were three officers from the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force and one officer from CMPD.
The incident, which resulted in a total of eight law enforcement officers being shot, unfolded in the 5000 block of Galway Drive. This occurred as members of the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force were executing a warrant related to the possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, as reported by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Johnny Jennings during a Monday evening press conference.
Upon arrival, the officers encountered gunfire from what was described as a “high-powered rifle.” In response, they returned fire, ultimately leading to the fatal shooting of a suspect in the front yard of the residence. 2 other individuals who inside the home are now being questioned.
At this point, authorities have not disclosed the names of those directly involved.
