Gastonia Trying To Scalp Police – $16,500 Bonus To Officers Who Leave Their Job and Move To Gastonia

The Gastonia City Council has just approved a drastic new measure to find more police officers for the Gastonia Police Department. The city is now offering up to $16,500 for officers in other departments to leave their job and come to Gastonia to work.

The objective is to expedite the recruitment process for experienced police officers and bolster the number of police personnel in Gastonia amidst a nationwide shortage of law enforcement officers.

The sign-on bonuses will be disbursed in two installments: $7,500 upon hiring, an additional $7,500 after one year of service, and an extra $1,500 sign-on bonus for officers residing in Gastonia.

According to GPD, this incentive package is the most competitive among police departments in North Carolina. The department aims to onboard approximately 30 new officers through this program, which could potentially create a recruitment challenge for other law enforcement agencies.

Starting salaries for police officers in Gastonia are starting at $49,771 per year.
