Police Find $95k in Cash on I-85 They Say Was Stolen From Charlotte ATM





During a traffic stop on Interstate 85 police found over $95,000 in cash in the back seat of a late model Nissan Maxima.

According to a press statement from the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, the bills are thought to be linked to a recent ATM robbery in Charlotte.

“Deputies took 30-year-old and Houston native, Charley Curry, into custody along I-85 on Wednesday evening. Anderson County deputies took the initiative to assist Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department…Our Directed Patrol Unit pulled over the Nissan Maxima near Exit 4 and found $95,700 inside a backpack in the back seat,” the statement read.

 

The vehicle, a Nissan Maxima, was stopped near Exit 4 on I-85 in South Carolina. Inside, officers found $95,700 in a backpack in the back seat. The 30-year-old man from Houston, Texas, was arrested at the scene. His reasons for possessing the cash were not disclosed by the investigators. He is currently being held in the Anderson County jail without bond on charges of being a fugitive from justice.

The location of the traffic stop is approximately 140 miles southwest of Charlotte, near the border between South Carolina and Georgia.

Details regarding the ATM robbery and the specific charges against the suspect have not yet been released by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
