Charlotte FC’s Bold Move: Premier League’s Dean Smith Selected as New Head Coach

Charlotte FC has named Dean Smith as its new head coach. Smith brings extensive experience from the English Premier League, having managed three clubs in this highly competitive league. His career in the Premier League, including a stint as the Premier League Manager of the Month, spans over a decade, notably leading Aston Villa to the league. He also had shorter coaching roles with challenging teams.

Charlotte FC highlights Smith’s local connections, noting his son’s soccer career at North Carolina State University and his current professional play for the Greenville Triumph in South Carolina.

In a video posted to social media, the new coach said, “it was clear that this is an ambitious club with the right ingredients for success and I’m delighted to begin a new chapter in Charlotte.”

This appointment follows the mid-season firing of former coach Miguel Ángel Ramírez, with Assistant Coach Christian Lattanzio serving as interim head coach for the remainder of the 2022 season. Ramírez left with a 5-8-1 record.

What do you think about the decision?
