Representative Tricia Cotham, who was elected to the NC House as a Democrat this past November, just announced that she is switching her party affiliation to Republican, giving Republicans in North Carolina a veto-proof supermajority in both the Senate and now the House.
Cotham defeated Republican Tony Long by an 18 point margin in the November 8th election and officially assumed office on January 1st, 2023.
During a press conference at the NC GOP, Representative Cotham said, “The modern day Democratic Party has become unrecognizable to me… If you don’t do exactly what the Democrats want you to do, they will try to bully you. They will try to cast you aside.”

NC Democratic party leaders are now calling for Cotham to resign after they funded much of her campaign.
